Sony KDL-60R550A 60-Inch HDTV Customer Review:
I did a lot of research to finally decide on this TV. I needed a 60" and was thinking about buying a Panasonic plasma, but decided to go for the LED. Very glad I did. I have had bad experience in the past with Samsung TVs, which I also looked at, and have always liked Sonys.
PROS:
Picture Quality: Overall picture quality is great. It has great black ranges for not being a plasma, but still provides all of the pros of a LED TV.
1080p Quality: All of my devices use 1080p quality, so 720p is not something I would see. From the quick settings changes that I made, 720p looked good, but as always, 1080p is much better. There is no comparison of 1080p to any Plasma, at least in my room.
3D: The TV uses passive 3D, which doesn't require powered glasses. Very nice as you don't have to wear heavy glasses that cause your eyes to strain. Having said that, I can count on one hand how many times I have used 3D. Maybe it just isn't for me, and maybe someday it will get more use, but at this time, it is more like an extra feature than a necessity. I will say, if you are looking for a 3D TV, passive glasses are the way to go, and the picture quality is amazing, even streaming from Netflix! The size of the screen goes a long way to bringing that theater experience home.
CONS:
There aren't a lot. Sony really needs to work on their menu response time, but I hardly ever use the menu's anyway. Also, I was a little disappointed in the size of the bezel around the edge, and still find myself a little jealous when I see a tiny bezel on a Samsung. However, that is not enough of an issue to make me want a different TV.
